The Magic of Alice (move cursor over photo for more info,as in all my blogs)
The didgeridoo show was fantastic ! Once again I got picked on to play the drums !! (not enough puff for the didg!) the little girl next to me was really funny and latched onto me (kept looking at me,no doubt wondering what I am !!)
Audience participation was great and the Star is a bloke called Andrew Langford (has an excellent webpage too) ALL didgeridoos on show can be used by the public and there is NO pressure to buy ( I will tho coz Im a compulsive buyer !) Sadly we will be moving on from here all too soon BUT will try the Casino next . I have included a piece of Didgeridoo music to the right,be patient & try it out (feedback would be appreciated)
Tommy Crow Aboriginal Artist
This bloke is our present neighbour in Alice We got to know him quite well and commissioned him to do an original on canvas for us He is a very talented man
we were so excited that Tommy did this for us We have seen his advertised prices and we consider our purchase to be a bargain He also signed personal photo of himself,me & AnnieMacDonnell Ranges NT
We spent a whole day in and out of a tour bus and saw some Magnificent scenery Places visited included Simpsons Gap Standley Chasm Ellery Creek Big Hole Ochre Pits Ormiston Gorge & Glen Helen Gorge
- Captivating stuff
- Times like this I wish I could Paint !!
- Mind Boggling Scenery
- Stuff used by Aboriginees for body paintings
- Tree aplenty
- Bloody Big Rocks!!
- Breath taking
These photos were all taken by Ann As mentioned before we are witnessing a once in a lifetime scenery by it all being GREEN rather than RED but we are taken by this place & afuture revisit is definately on the cards The people on the bus were very friendly & cheerful More photos will be publihed on the area tomorrow We will set off for Ayers Rock (Uluru) on Saturday with stops on the way Some of the scenery shown was painted by aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira pre WW2 Do look him up his paintings are incredible and his story is very sad
Alice Springs the Central Red Heart of Australia
I Love this town there has been SO much rain in recent months that the landscape has turned GREEN!! rivers are flowing & the central river (TODD) doesn’t have water in it for years> IT does now! Apparently for the town to experience so much rain & flowing rivers happens once in a life time and we are privileged to witness it .This town has become incredibly beautiful The locals call it the LUNG of Australia because the plants emit so much oxygen! In town is a tourist must visit Didgeridoo shop that has FREE lessons which me & Annie attended & what fun it was >we booked in to see the Didgeridoo Show later in the evening and that was great!! we went into a pub (Bo Jangles) the theme inside is COWBOYS and Australiana. The pub also has its own Radio Station & the goings on can be seen live around the world via their webcam (bossaloon.com.au) have a look see Monkey nuts are dispensed from a coffin (full size) that housed an effigy of Ned Kelly ( why do Australians love this man?) the shells (husks) are thrown onto the floor. The beer and the food are top quality Even the smokers area has a weird sort of charm Next blog will feature photos from Chasms and Rivers
- was one in our back garden !!
Alice Springs & area
Alice is a fascinating place BUT Annie says it has changed big time She left here 25 yrs ago having lived here for 8,Today we are going touring chasms/pools/creeks around a 300 km trip Lots to tell especially about didgeridoo playing Wil be out of ‘signal’ range today SO I have left a couple of “cutting ” pictures my daughter says I have to be PC SO heres pictures of toilets !!
Going to the Alice with Good Picture shoots on the Way
we travelled further North towards our destination Alice Springs & had some great picture shoots along the way .Wycliffe has supposedly had visitors from Outer Space & are capitalizing on that the overlander fuel station has a bit of an exhibition. We also crosed onto the cold side of Capricorn ( weather actually changed from HOT & dry to cold n wet !!) stopped at a place where there are Ginormous statues of Aboriginees. We are almost inAlice & further adventures await us ( I have booked into a didgeridoo training session !! should be a hoot!!)
The Magnificent Devils Marbles North of Alice Springs
What a very different attraction !! Absolutely fascinating & a MUST for travellers The scenery is breath taking and the Boulders that are stacked upon each other are a marvel to see. We are so impressed we are staying overnight in the area with NO power & NOT allowed to use the generator. Dingo s are known to be in this area & frequent the camp site at night !! Can’t wait too hopefully see them.
Annie even had me climbing some of the boulders & that is one experience !! Sadly it is a cloudy day and might not get to see the starry night HOWEVER we have the telly working from our satellite BUT no signal for my computer SO Blog will have to be put on hold. This place is SO tranquil IF ever you are near Alice Springs this place is a Must See & the camping overnight fee is $3.50 ~!! Tomorrow we had further adventures on the way to Alice Springs This life is so much better than sittin on me bum at home and worse still? Working !!!!
Tennant Creek a good place to pass thru !!!
We arrived at TC & wasn’t impressed with the place. Lots of indigenous people were walkin aimlessly around the shopping centres, which were heavily fortified with heavy meshing across the windows (one has to wonder why) although the main street was fairly clean the outward streets were littered with old beer bottles & cans even empty beer boxes were lyng around. We visited the old Telegraph station & as a tourist attraction it didn’t rate at all !! we booked into the caravan park had a shower & looked forward to a round of Golf next morning Again we were very disappointed !! the <greens< were red dirt .The fairways are spinnifex and the T offs are a wooden platform!! We gave it a miss and headed for the Devils Marbles about 100kms further south On route to the Marbles a Giant Rig (truck) had parked on the red dirt alongside the road & we heard him chatting on the CB (its like eaves droppin!!)
First caller (on CB)” you alright mate? Need any assistance?” 2nd Caller “Nah mate I’ve got a Skippy wrapped in my tyres & one of its bones has buggared my suspension,Im awaiting assistance from the yard, Thanks” What a terrible thing BUT sadly quite a lot of Kangaroos killed on Australian Roads Next stop & overnight stay Devils Marbles & what a treat !!
Daly Waters Pub & Caravan Site
This place looked like a deserted town UNTIL we went into the pub (quite a few people having a beer etc.) we fronted up at the reception and over head were 100,s of Bra,s!!didnt take long to notice other parts of the pub was decorated with articles of clothing, shirts, caps & even underpants (hope they washed em before putting on show!! outside in the restaurant area is a thong tree !!! ( for you pomms thongs over here are what you lot call flip flops NOT the ladies scanty swim thingies, although that would have been a better exhibition!) Throughout the night the camp site filled up & we met some really nice people from Sydney who said I speak like UGLY Dave Gray (Australian Pommie Comedian) Also met a really skinny bloke who is semi cycling around Australia (hes a heavy smoker too!!) good luck to him The beer and food was great.Went to the outside loo around 11.30 and couldn’t find my way back !!! was only 20 metres away!! took me 30 mins BUT all ended well Tomorrow we head off to Tenant Creek
