The World Of Balloons in Canowindra

We were lucky enough to witness a Hot Air Balloon competition today A large white cross is placed in a playing field, contestants have to “fly” over and drop a marker (throwing is not allowed) One brilliant expert after travelling 4 kms hovered around 2 metres over the cross and droped his marker dead centre of the cross Such Skill !! It was a magnificent spectacle to watch and the skills exhibited by these dedicated balloonists was truly amazing We were so impressed that I have decided to put lots of pictures I took onto a slide show on my blog.As mentioned before we are currently camped on a race track resting for a Sunday am move towards Gooliwinda (will check spelling on next blog!)

Goodbye Orange and hello Canowindra

This place is lovely and a heritage country town.We are currently parked in the Show grounds here People have travelled from all over Australia to be here for the week long Hot air balloon festival that is currently being held here(held annually & is the 28th show) I will put pictures on my next blog as we are up tomorrow at 6 am to see the balloonists strut their stuff on the local sports field We will be privileged to see the balloons unravelled from a small package to the full glory of total expansion being filled with hot air ( NO I wont be personally filling the balloons !!!)

Orange NSW and why I’m not keen on large towns

This is a large country town with around 38000 people here, the main industry is the growing of a variety of fruits (plus the obligatory Sheep & Cattle) Cider is also made here SO maybe its NOT such a bad place after all !!! This caravan park altho cheap is backed onto houses (flats) and is not very appealing. We have to stay here tho until our warranty work is finalized (hopefully today!) The nights are very cold and an extra Doona is needed.Next week over Easter we will be in Queensland and warmer weather. The streets are mostly tree lined here with an excellent display of the autumn season. We tried THREE golf courses but every one is booked out !!( Doesnt anybody work any more?) Today we will wander aimlessly around the town centre filling in time while our bus is being “fixed”

Orange NSW

We have arrived at Orange NSW after spending last night in Forbes, and apparently the home of Ben Hall who was originally jailed by a policeman for some crime he didnt commit! He was released after a month in which time his missus ran off with another policeman,Ben s cattle had all disappeared with no one to tend them in his absence,he in turned to crime, killed a few people along the way & was eventually gunned down after a colleague reported his whereabouts! The point of this story is that Australians make heroes of people like this (Ned Kelly being the most famous) instead of writing about the villains that they were !!We are now camped in Orange awaitin our bus warranty treatment (Thursday)

Bye Bye Narrandera On towards Orange

This town has history and boasted 27 pubs (now down to a few) We were chauffeur driven to the RSL club by Martin Bolton who has a street named after his family His history goes back to convict times ! (his words) he showed us the towns fountain of which there are only 2 in existence The other one is in India and made by Royal Doulton !! sadly it was vandalized and sent to Italy for repairs and is now in pristine condition.Again we have met nice people and had a good evening in the afore mentioned club. Tomorrow we push on towards Orange and maybe detour thru the Blue Mountains

Narrandera very peaceful

This place is great !! Very laid back ,lovely people on site but very relaxing except for Annie who is continually finding things to do If she keeps it up I will have NO alternative but to send her back to work! The roads in this town are VERY wide and pubs are a plenty There is an old brewery building abandoned to nature (I hate seeing good buildings.especially breweries being derelict !!)This camp-site is picture perfect AND a courtesy bus is provided to take us to the RSL pub !! Brilliant !! We are full on now with this way of life SO at our next large town we will get prices for an automatic TV dish to be installed on the roof

Deniliquin and the Grey Nomads

This town is buzzing !! from the 11th April the CMCA (of which we are members) is holding a week long rally to celebrate the clubs 25th anniv ALL sorts of activities are going on during the week culminating in a Grand Ball. Sadly we will not be able to stay due to warranty commitments in Orange NSW .1200 Motor homes will congregate in this small country town and TWO of these events are held Australia wide each year. The next event will be held in Kalgoorlie in October and we are hoping to make this one before we set sail for Tasmania.Deniliquin also hosts a yearly UTE muster and currently holds the record for the most utes in attendance ( see Ute on a Pole Pic ) We have arrived at a very picturesque country town in NSW Narrandera and is only a couple of hundred Kms from Canberra we will stay here a few days

We leave Moulamein and head for Deniliquin

We have had a great time here in Moulamein, the terrain is terrific & house prices with huge land plots is cheap..The local community paper advertises lots of activities & the town even boasts a retirement village situated on the Edwards river bank. The flooded river displays an eerie but exciting view of trees sticking out of the water !! An old wooden bridge leads across the river to the old court house that is set up with life size dolls depicting a jury and a judge !!The bridge is full of Golden Orb spiders ( probably climbing high to escape the floods) the spider is named because the web it has spun resembles golden thread ! We have to move on because of warranty commitments BUT the pleasant tranquillity of Moulamein could see my return one day Photos are plentiful so I will do as a slideshow
