Aborigines in Derby & Fitzroy Crossing
we left Derby Sunday A.M on the Saturday afternoon we went to Woolies for supplies and witnessed lots of indigenous people sat outside and 3 were asleep in the carpark using the kerbs as pillows!! at th jetty about 15 aborigines congregated at the shed on the jetty and unloaded lots of beer cartons.Arriving Fitzroy we went to local pub Crossing Inn at 6pm ( we didnt realize it was closing tme!!) Aborigines were in place that was surrounded by wire mesh !! all were shouting at each other The women being the loudest !! 2 policeman were present at the pub and advised me & Annie it wouldnt be good if we hung around ( at NO point did I feel threatened) after a few laughs with the Police we moved on.The aboriginees were moved on without any fuss BUT we could hear them for a while shouting abuse at each other as they disappeared into the Bush ( I,m hoping they wil be in the pub tomorrow & I will go and have a drink with themto try and get a ‘feel’ of what they are aboutAlcohol does NOT seem to help them.. sad
Fitzroy Crossing here we come
we leave Derby tomorrow am Very quiet place and a great circular jetty that will allow cars over,The sea is very muddy and the currents are amazingly fast !! Trips from the town include gorge trips and one that we couldnt get on (need to book 3 months in advane) is a sea plane trip over the Archipelago to see Vertical Falls (l have included a picture BUT havent seen it Will do next trip up here tho)
The Boab & why its ugly & appears upside down
The Boab tree has a strong spiritual presence within Aboriginal culture. In Australian creation stories the Boab was seen as becoming too proud and arrogant. It was punished by being re-planted upside down and made to be fat and grotesque.
Winjana & Tunnel Creek
Today was the best day we travelled in 4WD bus(picswill follow) over the roughest outback dirt track for 200 kms to a creek that is populated with Crocodiles !!! had lotsa photos taken & altho it i Friday 13 h Annie is safe !! The scenery is a knockout We travlled on to Tunnel Creek and that is a river that flow s thru a KM long very dark tunnel The water was freezing BUT also refreshing It came out into what can only be described as an Oasis !! Only 3 people ventured for a swim ( I was 1 of them ) we sa a 2000 yr old Boab tree At the end of this day we are SO tired &I will put pictures on soon Im still loving this retirement !!!
