farewell Darwin as we head for the World Famous Kakadu
took a while but Darwin is starting to on grow on me! The shopping centre we saw at Casuarina (Darwin Suburb) was HUGE !!anything you need can be found in this centre We went to the Cinema within the complex, wasting time while our CB was being fitted (Sorcerers Apprentice ,recommended for all ages) and it is a comfortable theatre. We utilized the Darwin Bus Service ( once again using my free bus pass!) and the drivers were very courteous & professional,a credit to their employers. After the movie we collected our bus complete with NEW CB & naturally I had a play with it.So far,so good.We are currently packing up,filling the bus up with water ready for our further adventures starting tomorrow. We head off to Crocodile Dundee Country early in the am to the internationally known KAKADU.Once again we may be out of computer signal & may not be able to do my Blog until we come into signal.Stay tuned for hopefully more exciting adventures !!
Timor Sea Darwin
We ventured out in the bus & explored some interesting places,Highlights are the War Museum apparently Darwin was attacked by the Japanese February 1942 The town and docks were devastated with the loss of around 250 on that one day !! The tanks and weapons of world war 2 were displayed. We then ventured to the Darwin Casino & actually won !! and that paid for our lunch which at $17 was a bargain ALL you can eat & drink (not alcohol) We ventured on to the beach and watched the CUSTOMS boats preparing to go to sea ( I suspect they were on duty to patrol the borders looking for Boat People) In one of the bays was sunken boat that has apparently been abandoned. When we got back a small frilly lizard had been guarding our spot !! Tomorrow we take the bus in to get a CB fitted & we may venture to the Movies whilst it is being done Talking of Movies we also viewed the open air deck chair cinema. very quaint but sadly we couldn’t get to see the inside
Darwin City & Casuarina Shopping Mall
Darwin not a very nice city & main shops have moved to suburbia. The highlight of the day was discovering I can get FREE bus rides using my WA Seniors card ! Annie showed my card ( she doesn’t have one) the conductor let he also travel free! thinking she is my carer !!!! bloody cheek. We have arranged to get a quote for a fixed CB radio (ours only has a sketchy 2 KM range Whereas the potential new one has a 40 km range!!) that will be in the morning There is an excellent book shop in the precincts called QBD and is expanding throughout Australia For the readers among keep an eye out the books are very very cheap & originals. The precinct shopping centre is HUGE & e spent time in the cool window shopping.
DARWIN NT the Adventure continues
we arrived late afternoon, set the bus up had a lazy rest day.Tomorrow we venture into Darwin Centre camera at the ready !! we will utilise public transport and seriously considering getting a state of the art CB Radio; Our little hand held CBs are OK but restricted to short distances & we are missing out on some of the colourful language used by truckies ( Channel 40) and we have interacted with other on the road Grey Nomads ( Chan 18) we are getting quite expert in the ways of travelling. Looking forward to tomorrows adventures
Wangi Falls in Lichfield
we travelled to Lichfield National Park in the Northern Territory passing thru a quaint town called Batchelor >the Falls were brilliant!! we swam in the crystal clear falls freshwater and admired the awesome waterfall that fills it.Creatures sighted around the area included birds.strange looking spiders, frogs and even Bats !! we opted to stay in an UN-powered site overnight at the falls. Generators were NOT allowed as to maintain the peace & tranquillity that IS Wangi Falls. After the swim & dinner the air became very humid & uncomfortably hot !!(we still needed the experience !) After dark the heavens opened up (it hadn’t rained for months) the aroma from the forest was intoxicating & very fresh. We were still feeling rather warm so we ventured out into the pitch darkness in the rain & the distant lightning flashes momentarily turned night into day BUT what an experience !! Pictures to follow > Next stop THE TOP END Darwin !!
Leaving Katherine heading towards Lichfield
we are preparing to leave Katherine & heading for Lichfield National Park.We like this place ( Katherine ) so much we will stay overnight on the way back. The Hot Springs are very pleasurable, locals very friendly, the Camp Park is great Once again we may just be out of signal range But we will no doubt have some interesting pics to put on here Stay in touch and feel fre to comment
