Derby WA
Quiet place, lots of BOAB trees, the biggest is 1500yrs old and was used to house convicted aborigines in days gone by! The sea is very murky due ti high tides rolling ove the mud flats ( bit reminiscent of my home town sea The Irish Sea. Swimming is NOT recommended it harbours sharks and salt water crocodiles.I witnessed a hammerhead shark being caughtand I felt like stealing it abd throwing it back !! Althoughwe did have fish n chips for tea!! On the way into Derby (for Pomms it is NOT pronounced dArby!!) i saw a magnificent water windmill,We also passed the old RAAF centre where the boat people are kept in luxury !! The information centre was a treat !! the assistants seemed hard done by because we interrupted their session on the Internet!! Hope you enjoy the pics
Farewell Broome Hello Derby
Broome is a top spot, the home of Pearls and mother of pearl in which the shells have been harvested for making shirt buttons etc.Aboriginees were the original divers ( apparently could stay under water longer than we whites & asians) Once the very heavy diving suit had been invented Asians became the harvesters (many died because of the bends, until the decompression chambers were introduced) So on that note iyts goodbye Broome,We may be out of signal range for a while Stay tuned Geoff n Annie
